FeedMingle as you might have heard has been a huge success as a web startup and it was an initiative by us to help developers and feed readers in mixing and merging RSS feeds from different sources and serve as one RSS feed, atom feed, json and an html widget.
The idea came to my mind around one year back of launching this awesome app by the regular need(few clients’ demanded so) of fetching some news or updates from one or more sources and display it at one place altogether in a single stream. We implemented the similar stuff with 3 of our projects and improved the code smartly to act intelligent i.e. filter duplicate content, caching and recognizing feeds from even website urls. I booked the domain FeedMingle.com and being lazy i left it so that we’ll develop it as an app later and as usual been busy with clients’ projects.
After an year when Godaddy sent me a mail that the domain is expiring, it reminded me of the idea and suddenly I thought to build the thing. I helped my team brainstorming, prototyping and develop the masterpiece called FeedMingle.
We launched it and we been at pagerank 6 within 21 days of its launch and FeedMingle got featured in more than 3000 blogs and web showcases. Every blog which has compared FeedMingle with Yahoo Pipes has mentioned it simpler and better than later. we faced the traffic upto 50000 unique hits per day and there was no revenue model. Long after turning down two acquisition offers, we realized it was hard time now. All the resources we could afford were lower than the requirements. We learnt and implemented so many things about scaling and optimizing our app but the hunger kept increasing as the popularity was increasing by rocket speed and then we realized it was time to bring it down. We tried monetizing by using tools like google adsense but the revenue was nothing in comparison to the server expenses it involved.

This application is first of its own kind on Facebook. In the Book of Secrets you can share you’r secrets anonymously. There is no need to expose your identity. The Book of Secrets will keep identity hidden. Also, user can choose name of their own choice along with an avatar which suits their persona.

There are various categories of secrets which helps users to browse the secrets of their own interested category , also to post their secrets in different categories.

User can also comment, like, react or report abuse shared secrets of other users and Book of Secrets will send a notification email to the owners of the shared secrets.

Book of Secrets already getting positive feedbacks from its users , many users got their problem solved using the Book of Secrets and many got relieved from pressure of their secret which was eating them but after sharing they were able to throw the burden of guilt from their head.

Google envisions huge possibilities for the alliance as there are 1.5 billion television sets in use around the world. 1 billion people are on the Internet. But nearly 3 billion people have a mobile phone. And, it will keep growing being world’s most successful consumer product.

Android – the operating system, middleware and a set of key mobile applications. Android as a platform will technically collaborate all companies, services, developers, devices and users in the alliance. the SDK for developers is out now and probably it is based on Linux.

What does all this actually mean?

1. There will be one open platform for all mobile devices in alliance, named Android.
2. Android will be able to communicate to device features as well as applications.
3. Developers can develop applications on the Android SDK which will run on any mobile device.
4. All companies under the alliance are giants in their fields, which ensures the success of the alliance.
5. Google’s vision for the alliance is really futuristic and well timed.
6. Like OpenSocial is for social networks, OHA is for mobile phones.
7. Being open ensures the rapid and unrestricted growth of the alliance and will also make it a success anyway.
8. It is going to benefit all, the service providers, the mobile
   operators, users, and all companies anyhow connected to the alliance.

Also, Google has announced an open challenge to developers worth $10 million for Android SDK.

We’ve already started burying our heads into it.

To look at the options to provide a virtual machine to run windows on Linux.

i had multiple options

Complete virtualization (virtual machine)

1) Bochs (I have used it a few years back and found it good, but it only lacked a graphical configuration manager)

2) VMWARE (one of the best in terms of ease of use but i have to reject it in due to its licensing)

3) XEN (text on net says a lot about it but till now i am unable to
establish a xen server what i want to do is to set a windows guest but
i have not found an option for it till now.)

then a site came into view the screen shots seems quite impressive and so came the fourth option in my mind

4) innotek virtualbox (although its proprietary in its fullest, but
a limited version is also released in GPL, and both versions are free
for educational and not for commercial use.)

5) Wine – a nice piece of software, till now i have been able to succesfully run

i) macromedia dreamweaver 8.0

ii) adobe photoshop cs2 tryout

iii) winzip, winrar and other compression tools

6) DOSBOX

Well i have been dieing to try my hands on those nice games
available to me during the good old days of dos, which includes jazz
jackrabbit and others which i was unable to on XP, even under
compatibility mode.

This nifty utility is now installed on both my windows and Linux box
and is helping me run those old applications which worked on dos only
(or at most win98) environment.
